During the Summer Topic; Going for Gold, R1M had the opportunity to create their very own Olympic Medals using clay.  First of all the children designed their own Olympic medals.  Next they rolled and shaped the clay.  Finally when the clay was dry, the children painted the medals.  The whole experience was a lot of fun and very messy.  The medals looked stunning with the glittery paint.

Luckily there was a break in the weather on Tuesday 19th June so, while the sun was briefly shining, Year 5 took their Olympic torches (and Choppy Dog) for a lovely stroll down to the Chopwell Arch. After a quick photo shoot we all dashed back up the hill, only just making it back to school before the rain came pouring down!

Then the infants enjoyed the rest of the afternoon looking at the different food groups with the Dieticians from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. All the children chose their healthy fillings to create a smiley face open snadwhich.

R/1M Olympic Torch Walk

All of the children in Chopwell Primary School have had the opportunity to create their very own Olympic Torch in honour of the London Olympics.  Everyone worked really hard on their designs which looked really effective when carried altogether.  On Thursday 14th June, year R/1M went for a gentle stroll to the Minors Wheel with their torches.  The weather was lovely as the children sensibly carried the Olympic Torches through Chopwell.  The children really enjoyed their visit around the local area.
