Welcome back to another exciting half term with Mr Marriner

This half term’s focus will be countries around the world and in class 3/4M we have some excellent learning opportunities by looking at the country of Italy.

During our English lessons we will be focusing on instructional writing. We will be writing instructions on how to make a pizza and then using these instructions to make a pizza. Also we will be writing instructions on a journey around Italy after we have learnt about the country and the landmarks. We will also be writing reports on our favourite cities in Italy and using the research we have done to further our knowledge on Italy.

In Maths this half term we will be looking more at fractions and decimals. We will be finding equivalent fractions and fractions of numbers. We will also be using and applying our multiplication and division skills to play games and see the link between the two methods.

In Science this half term we are focusing again on ‘Plants’. The children had a great time last half term looking at the structure and functions of plant parts. This half term we will be taking that knowledge further by looking at more complex processes such as seed dispersal and testing our knowledge of plants with fair tests and experiments.

This half term in geography we will be using our whole school topic of countries around the world and our country Italy to develop our understanding of physical and human characteristics of a country.

In Computing we will be working as meteorologists and using weather recording equipment and computers to analyse data and learn more about what being a meteorologist means.
Our DT and Art focus will be linking to whole school topic also. Firstly, we will be making Italian menus and choosing a food that we like to make. Secondly we will be looking at the famous
Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo and using his fascinating work to create sculptures and water colour paintings.

We hope you really enjoy the work we will produce this half term.
