During the Easter holidays Miss Shepherd, Mr Bosworth, Miss Hillary and Miss Smails were given the amazing opportunity of travelling to Shanghai to visit our link school and teach some English lessons. We have had an amazing link with Luwan Central Number 2 Elementary School, our Chinese international schools partner, for a number of years now. Miss Shepherd has been lucky enough to visit the school three times!
Our teachers prepared and taught some English Culture lessons that involved speaking, listening and writing. The lessons included visiting England and writing a postcard to send home about England, learning about Afternoon Tea and creating a menu and party invitation, exploring the landmarks in London and creating 3D models of the most well-known landmarks, and learning about the weather and creating a Weather Wheel. The children really enjoyed the lessons and many said that they would like to visit England.
Our teachers also got the opportunity to have a tour of both school campuses, observe Maths lessons, join in with Parent Afternoons at the school (making Sushi!) and do some sightseeing around Shanghai.
A huge thank you to Mrs Fellowes-Prynne for making the trip possible and to Mrs Cheun Jin and the children from Luwan Elementary School for making our teachers feel so welcome.
Our 5-a-side team won 5 out of 6 games over two weeks and were absolutely fantastic in the finals, winning a trophy as Runners-up. Congratulations!
Well done to our fantastic girls team on finishing in 3rd Place and winning bronze medals.
Team: Lucy Robinson, Ella Davidson, Shannon McGee, Jasmine Sillence, Nicole Dellow and Lisa Reid.
A huge well done to the netball team for finishing in 2nd place in the Year 5/6 Hi Netball Tournament at Thorp Academy and winning the Respect award.
During Maths Week the whole school took part in a range of different challenges related to ‘Measures’. On Monday morning each class from Nursery to Year 6 were given three Maths challenges to complete across the morning. Each of the challenges were based around an area of measure, for example, time, money, area and capacity. The children worked together to come up with ideas on how to solve the problems and then set off in various directions around the school to try and solve their challenges.
On Wednesday, each class then came to the main hall and we each presented our findings from our challenges. It was great for the children to show off all of their hard work to the rest of the school!
Each class had the same third challenge, this was to see who could make the longest, continuous piece of paper using only one A4 sheet. Each class had a winner:
Reception – Alexander Ibbetson, 1B – Lauren Britten-Kassim, 1.2H – Owen Foley, 2M – Corey Gate, 3G – Corey Brown, 3.4M – Libby Dodd, 4H – Will Eltringham-Wallce, 5C – Rhiannon Gammon, 6C – Will Brown, 6S – Heather McCullagh
The overall whole school winner was Heather McCullagh – well done Heather!
For the past 6 weeks the children in 4H and 5C have been learning a new skill…Clog Dancing!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the lessons and they all worked extremely hard to meet their end goal – a performance at The Sage, Gateshead.
On Friday 3rd March 2017, the two classes travelled to The Sage to perform in a show with children from other schools. Our children did us proud and their performance was brilliant!
After they had performed they took part in singing and dancing workshops, and at the end of the day they took part in a Ceilidh with the children from the other schools. All brilliant afternoon had by all!
