Welcome to Chopwell Primary School
Our dedicated team of staff and Governors are committed to ensuring that all of our children not only achieve their full potential but do so in a caring, stimulating and exciting environment.
We are extremely proud of our outstanding work in developing our children as global citizens of the future. We have achieved our Third International School Award, with the study of other countries and cultures providing an innovative thread to many areas of our curriculum.
In particular we enjoy a close friendship with Seka Elementary School in Japan and Luwan Central School in China which has provided fantastic experiences for our children including pen friends and joint project work involving teachers and pupil as well as visits to each others school. Click our international link below to find out more.
We are also outstanding in our provision of an annual 5 day visit to France for our Year 5 and Year 6 children to promote their French language skills.
We provide an excellent variety of before and after school clubs, free of charge and are open to all children. Our facilities for developing physical education and the arts are exceptional, with a 3-court sports hall available to the children until 5pm.
We are well supported by our parents/carers and encourage them always to play an active role in their child’s education. As Chopwell is a rural village we have many close links with the local community and take every opportunity to welcome parents into school and are actively involved in many activities outside of school. We hope that this website will give a flavour of the rich and varied life our children encounter on a daily basis at Chopwell Primary.
Head Teacher: Mrs B Fellowes-Prynne B.Sc. M.Ed.

Knights and Castles day
As part of our topic on 'A blast form the past' Year 2 had a visit from Tanya Bentham to take them back into the world of knights and Castles.
We looked at castle dress and the different clothes that they would have worn in the castles long ago.
We dressed a Year 6 child up as a knight because the chain mail was so heavy!

Evacuated
It was 1939 and
A lady called Katy arrived at school to tell us all about evacuated children.
We were told that many children left the safety of the countryside to go back to the city. We were given suitcases and we needed to find as many clues from them as possible to work out who they belong to.
We found some clothes so we tried them on.
We didn't like wearing the gas masks though. Neville Chamberlain announced over the radio that war had been declared on A message was sent that Year 3 were being evacuated.
We were sent to Home Farm, where the farmer was only expecting three of us.
He set us away on jobs to see if we were strong enough.
We made the beds using hay.

Tudor Day
As part of out whole school theme 'Blast from the Past', Year 4 enjoyed a special visit from Mistress Bentham. She told us all about life in Tudor times and the difference between rich people and poor people's clothes.
We even got to dress up. Here we are as Lord and Lady of the Manor.
We looked at lots of artefacts. We tried to read a Tudor book, but it was made of wood and only had one page!
