Year 4 Mrs Cuthbertson

Welcome to Year 4. This term we will be listening to the story 'The Iron Man' and using it as a stimulus for our writing. We will also be investigating electricity and using the information we find out to design and make a moving robot. We will begin our historical adventure learning about 'The Romans'. We  look forward to a half term full of investigating, finding out, hard work and fun.

Making Art Bots

As part of our D&T project we needed to know how to connect a motor to a circuit. We had fun making colour spinners using an electrical circuit with a motor.

We have been using Rally Coach to help us with Rounding in Maths.

Welcome back to Autumn Term 2. This half term we will be exploring different Biomes around the World, looking at living things and their habitats and exploring Botanists Art work. In English we will be reading The Lost Whale by Hannah Gold. We will be writing a narrative based on The Secret of Black Rock and non chronological reports based on plants and animals.

In Maths we will continue to work hard learning our times tables and multiplication, continue to develop our knowledge of addition and subtraction and begin to understand what area is. We continue to develop our musical skills with the Samba drums.

Lumiere

We had great fun constructing large models for the Lumiere night. Our topic this half term is Transport and Trade in Y3 and Y4 so we made a cargo boat with a lighthouse and Y3 made the Bus with the road signs and cones.

The parents helped the children to make the cargo to sit on the boat.

As part of our Transport and Trade topic we invited Hannah from Pickle Palace in to do some work about Fairtrade. We then made baked chocolate bananas using Fairtrade products.

As part of Art we are going to make clay boats. The children were given a challenge to create a boat that could hold cargo (cubes) using only 1 piece of card, tin foil, and cellotape.  This was quite tricky and needed a lot of perseverance. Some were successful, some were not, but everyone had fun.

Creative Climate NUSTEM

As a class we have taken part in an exciting project through NUSTEM. Our task was to use our artistic skills to describe where we are geographically. The children decided to paint the places that make up our community in Chopwell. We discussed Chopwell Woods, the pump track and the Chopwell mining wheel.
