18.6.21 - Wild plant hunt and wildflower planting

This week in science we have been learning all about wild plants. We can name lots including: nettles, dandelions, dog roses, daisies, buttercups, ivy and clovers. We went on a hunt around forest school to see how many we could find. We also planted some wild flower seeds to grow- Mr Lockey kindly helped us! The children can't wait to see how the wild flowers grow next year.

Forest school fun - 11.05.21

We thoroughly enjoyed heading over to forest school for some outdoor learning today. We ate our yummy snacks in the sunshine and listened to one of our favourite stories. We explored our forest school area for sensory words that we could use when writing our story of Little Red Riding Hood. We came up with some brilliant sensory phrases for example: rough wood, green leaves, bumpy bark, birds tweeting and twigs snapping. Tomorrow we will use these phrases write to about the forest Little Red Riding Hood enters.

Easter fun - 01.04.21

Today we had lots of fun searching for Easter eggs with tricky words inside and we baked chocolate Easter egg nests- yummy!

Geography

I loved seeing some of your work on the Facebook page yesterday continue with this today.

In Geography we have been learning about Brazil. With the children taking a particular interest in the Amazon rainforest I thought they would enjoy doing a project about rainforests this week. Read through the powerpoint presentation below and then the children can show me what they have learnt about rainforests this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon. I would love the children to lead their learning with this, they can be as creative as possible.

Some activity ideas could be:

  • Create animal masks.
  • Show where some rainforests are on a map.
  • Build their own rainforest out of lego.
  • Design a poster describing what a rainforest is.
  • Research information about a specific animal and document everything they know David Attenborough style!
  • Create a 'Rainforest quiz' for your family.

Don't forget to upload your child's work to the Facebook page as I would love to see what they come up with!

We are so proud of how well the children have settled into Year 1. They are all so excited to take part in lots of exciting activities and learn lots of exciting things. The children have been learning through plan, do review this half term We have focused on the children's interests and have set up our classroom to suit what they enjoy doing. The children have took an interest in dinosaurs at the moment, and are loving all of the activities we have set up for them.

Dinosaur poo!

The children noticed there were 3 big poos in the curiosity box and wanted to investigate which dinosaur had made the mess! We talked about what carnivores, omnivores and herbivores were. The children loved investigating and discussing each poo and figured out the poo with the grass in was from a herbivore the poo with the bones and grass was from an omnivore and the poo with the bones in was from a carnivore.

Dinosaur poo - Which dinosaur does the poo belong to?

Snack time

During snack time the children use their wallets (with money we have given them) to pay for their snack. They love counting out their money, paying Miss Hillary and eating their fruit.
