Reception Mrs Banks

Reception have a fantastic day at Hall Hill Farm! We fed some of the animals, petted the rabbits and guinea pigs and had lots of fun at the soft play!

This week we have been looking at maps! Children have created their own maps that show their journey from home to school!

This week in drawing club we have read the story 'The Giant Jam Sandwich'. We finished off the week making our own jam sandwiches and writing instructions of how to make them!

Reception have enjoyed their visit to the library! We listened to some stories about looking after our teeth. We enjoyed choosing our own stories to borrow from the library. Back at school we talked about the importance of looking after our teeth and had a go at brushing some teeth making sure we get right to the back! We talked about the role of a dentist and looked at some of the equipment they use.

We have loved celebrating world book day at school! We created our own book marks, designed our own book covers and created our own stick puppets.  Throughout the course of the week children also brought in their favourite stories to share with the rest of the class.

Reception have been very excited to start Drawing Club as part of their literacy learning.  We use a different text each week to learn new vocabulary and develop our mark making skills. It's proving to be a very popular area of the classroom.
Texts we have used so far are: Not Now Bernard, Room on the Broom and Penguin by Polly Dunbar.

In PE we have been practising our ball skills. We have been learning to throw and catch with control. We really enjoy our PE lessons which are always finished off with a team game of ‘Shark Attack’ a firm favourite with us all!

We have been learning all about Chinese New Year! We talked about Chinese new year traditions, wrote our names in Chinese writing and had a go at using chopsticks! We finished the week off with a delicious Chinese themed lunch.

Following on from a child’s interest in The Eiffel Tower we have been learning all about France! We looked at a map to see where France was located and talked about how we would get to France from Chopwell! We then used street view to zoom in to some famous locations in France such as Disneyland Paris and The Eiffel Tower.

We been learning how to say hello, goodbye and thank you in French and even tried some delicious French foods!

It is important for children to learn a little about the meaning of Remembrance Day, even at an early age. This type of learning is an important part of our children's personal, social and emotional development. It also helps our children to develop a better understanding of the world and  about important events in history.

We have talked about the meaning of Remembrance Day and why we celebrate it. We talked about why we wear poppies and then created our own! Some of our children even created their own poppy field scenes using paint!

We watched a Cbeebies animation called 'Poppies', it created a lot of thought and discussion. Watch this clip with your children by clicking the following link.

We have had a great time at Forest School looking for signs of Autumn! We talked about the changes that happen as we approach different seasons and spotted lots of signs that Autumn was here!

We have been dressing up for Halloween and making potions in our witches cottage! We have also been creating our own amazing Autumn artwork!

We have loved exploring our outdoor area! We have enjoyed creating recipes in the mud kitchen and exploring the tubes and pipes in the sand and water. We have shown excellent creativity in the construction area, using wooden blocks to create houses and cars!

In maths we have been learning to match, sort and compare. We have been pairing up objects that are the same and enjoyed playing a Noah's ark pairs game to reinforce our learning.

We have listened to a story called 'Button Box' and enjoyed sorting and comparing the buttons. We have been learning lots of new mathematical vocabulary.

We have had a fabulous first week in reception. We have enjoyed exploring our new classroom and making new friends!
