Virtual sports day 2020

Challenge yourself to complete these ten activities over the course of today and ask an adult share pictures and videos with your friends on the Facebook group! You will need someone to time your activities. Who will be able to meet all of the challenges?! Good luck!

1. How long can you balance on one leg blindfolded?

2. How long can you hold the plank for?

3. How long can you can you balance some books on your head before they fall off? Make it harder by standing on one leg! How many books can you balance?!

Balance some books on your head, how far can you walk without them falling off? Make it harder by creating an obstacle course to move round!

4. How many star jumps/burpees can you do in one minute?

5. How many times can you stand up and sit down on a chair in one minute? This will test your leg strength! Want more of a challenge?!? Try this on only one leg!
Bronze = 30 or more

Silver= 50 or more

Gold=60 or more

6. Not quite an egg and spoon race! Ask your adult for what you can use. How many laps of your living room/garden can you do without dropping your egg? You could use your obstacle course from activity 3 to make it harder!

7. How many times can you bounce a ball off a tennis racket without dropping it? You could use a pan and rolled up socks if you don’t have the equipment! Can you flip the racquet round each time you bounce for even more of a challenge?!

8. How many times can you clap between throwing a ball in the air and catching it again? Challenge- clap a rhythm in between catches!

9. How many keepy ups can you do in one minute?

10. Place a cereal box on the floor, how many times can you jump over it in one minute? Don’t squash the box!

Wellbeing Wednesday

It is so important to look after ourselves physically but also mentally. As it is mental health awareness week, it is a greater time than any to think about what we can do to be kind to others and ourselves. Today I would like you to do something that makes you happy, relaxed and calm. It could be something as a simple as colouring in or you could even make a fort in your bedroom! Can you also do something to make someone else smile and feel happy? It could be making them lunch, giving them a big hug or helping them tidy up, it is up to you!

Here is a list of things you can try to make sure you're the happiest you can be!

  • mindfulness colouring in
  • creating a fort
  • a walk
  • watching your favourite film with loved ones in your home
  • learning a new dance
  • drawing or painting
  • baking or cooking
  • learning a new skill or language
  • creating art with nature
  • yoga
  • playing with Lego
  • set up a cafe/restaurant for loved ones in your home
  • singing and dancing to your favourite song

Please share what you have done today to make you feel happy on the Facebook group! I am going to go on a  long walk and and have a dance around! To be kind to others I am going to make the people in my house a special tea as a treat!

VE Day

On Friday it is the 75th anniversary of VE day which celebrates the end of the second world war. This can be a sensitive subject, so it might be a nice activity to complete with children together in case they have any further questions. In November, we did a lot of work around Remembrance Day, so hopefully children will understand and respond well to these activities which aim to get them to think about different perspectives during this time.

I have linked some activities below. The corresponding video is 30 minutes long, so please feel free to watch and listen in small chunks over the rest of this week.

There are also some fun activities you can try so you can have your own celebration safely at home on Friday! These activities will be used for our topic work for the rest of this week. If you make any of the art work or try any of the activities, please send it on the Facebook page so we could make a virtual display of your work!

Dear Parents/ Carers and all year 3 pupils,

I will update this page daily with lessons that your child can complete whilst the school is closed. The work set can be completed in the exercise book provided. Each day, I will provide work for the core subjects : Maths and English. In addition to this, I will set a daily guided reading activity and topic work which can be completed over the course of the week. Whilst children are away from school we encourage that they are still reading for 25 minutes a day.

When children return to school all work completed should be returned to school so that teachers can see what your child has been able to do.

I have linked times table songs that the children can listen to to help practice their times tables. As well as practicing their weekly times tables, children could time how fast they can do their different times tables, counting them forwards and backwards, testing people around the house and completing the times tables activities in the home learning packs.

Children can use their exercise books to practice their weekly spellings, they can choose whichever strategy that helps them remember them best!

In the home learning packs there is a handwriting booklet, children can practice handwriting in the booklet and in their exercise book. This could be done for 10 minutes a day.
