Year 5 – Miss Hillary

Welcome to Year 5!

Miss Hillary

Eden Camp - 12.6.18

As part of our World War 2 topic we took the children to Eden Camp in North Yorkshire. The children thoroughly enjoyed their day visiting and learning about different topics within the war. Their favourite hut was The Blitz Hut.

Library visit- 3.5.18

We visited our local library to find out more about our current topic "World War 2". We thoroughly enjoyed listening to stories linked with the war, problem solving using rationing books and an evacuee 'true or false' game.

Shelter building- Forest School

Along with our new topic "World War 2" we have been researching and learning about the different shelters built in the war. We took full advantage of the glorious weather today and used the resources in the forest school area to build our own shelters!

All of the children thoroughly enjoyed participating in the sports for schools event with the British Olympic athlete 'Peter Bakare'. The children really enjoyed taking part in the fitness circuits he challenged them to and gained excellent knowledge of sportsmanship. They have been sponsored to take part in the event and raise money for new sporting equipment for our school!

The children thoroughly enjoyed working alongside their parents in our 'Volcano' workshop, which is linked to our half term topic. We experimented with different materials to watch volcanoes erupt using: bicarbonate soda and vinegar- it got very messy!

World Book Day

The children made a fantastic effort dressing up as their favourite book character. They enjoyed taking part in lots of fun book activities.

Science- Today Miss Hillary challenged us to construct a 3D structure with 20 straws and 50cm of tape to support a 10g weight.
