RESOURCES

Throughout the school year we allocated funding towards purchasing high quality equipment that would directly impact on the children's ability to develop their sporting abilities in line with the SSPs sporting calendar. We purchased equipment such as; tag rugby belts, cricket bats, rounders bats, tennis balls and playground equipment for our 'School Sport Leaders' to use at lunchtimes for their new role. We also purchased a school sporting kit consisting of; shorts, socks, shoes and a top displaying the school logo. The children wear these at any SSP competitions and feel proud to display themselves as a team and represent Chopwell Primary School.

Coaching

We have invested significantly in high quality coaching through Newcastle United Football Club. The funding aimed to allow all of our children from Reception to year 6 to receive high quality P.E coaching from the NUFC that would support and upskill our teaching staff to promote independence and a high standard of PE delivery across the school. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only some year groups benefited from the NUFC coaching this year. We also invested in a high quality dance coach to deliver a dance unit to our Y3/4 children to support them in the dance curriculum and to prepare a routine for the Gateshead Dance Festival. This was very beneficial to not only the children, whose confidence and skills in dance grew greatly over the unit, but also to the teaching staff who were able to upskill themselves on the teaching of dance.

COMPETITION

Both KS1 and KS2 had planned to enter many SSP events in 2019/20. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the children were only able to attend six competitions. During the events, the children demonstrated determination, resilience, sportsmanship, passion, empathy and humility. When our children earned their space on the Chopwell Primary School team, they understood what that meant and appreciated how hard they had to work for their position.
