Nursery Mrs Coates

Welcome to our Nursery page!

We hope you are all doing okay during this difficult time! To help you support your children at home I will update this page daily with some ideas and activities for you to do together at home. Please use the grid in the front of your Home Learning Pack daily, all suggested activities are linked to the Early Years curriculum and are things we already enjoy doing at Nursery. Talking, Reading and Rhyme Time daily will really support your child's development. You can also encourage counting by hiding numbers (0-10) around the house for children to find or counting random objects from around the house with them.

Down in the jungle

Down in the jungle where nobody goes

There's a little baby elephant washing his clothes

With a rub-a-dub here

And a rub-a-dub there

That's the way he washes his clothes.

Down in the jungle where nobody goes

There's a little baby lion washing his clothes

With a rub-a-dub here

And a rub-a-dub there

That's the way he washes his clothes.

Questions:

Can you think of a name for the dog?

What do you think the dog looks like?

Why does he/she live in a forest?

Who else lives there with him/her?

What do you think it’s like living in a forest?

Reading and Rhyming -

Choose your favourite story to read together. It is so important that children are read to everyday, and our children love stories!

Singing Nursery Rhymes is also an important part of our day.  For today’s rhyme I have chosen…

The Wheels on the Bus…(please sing it together - the children know the actions!)

The wheels on the bus go round and round

Round and round

Round and round

The wheels on the bus go round and round

All day long

The wipers on the bus go Swish, swish, swish

Swish, swish, swish

Swish, swish, swish

The wipers on the bus go Swish, swish, swish

All day long

The horn on the bus goes Beep, beep, beep

Beep, beep, beep

Beep, beep, beep

The horn on the bus goes Beep, beep, beep

All day long

The wheels on the bus go round and round

Round and round

Round and round

The wheels on the bus go round and round

All day long

Phonics -

It may be useful for some of the children who will be moving into Reception in September to take part in the daily Read, Write Inc. Set 1 Speed Sound lesson.

Although we don’t follow the scheme yet in Nursery, we do have a focus sound of the week and have been concentrating on the first 5 RWI sounds (m a s d t).

Please follow this link for a virtual daily speed sound lesson for your child to take part in.

Pancake Day!

We have had the best day making, and of course eating pancakes! We started the day by reading 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes', we really enjoyed the story but decided that the other characters should have helped Mr Wolf make the pancakes in the story. We then washed our hands, got the ingredients ready and started cooking! When the pancakes were ready we chose our toppings! Most of us chose chocolate spread, but we could also choose syrup or sugar and lemon.

Teddy Bears Picnic...

We have had a fantastic half-term looking at old and new toys. So, we thought it would be great to end all of the fun with our own Teddy Bears Picnic! We sang the Teddy Bears Picnic song, brought in our Teddies from home, made jam sandwiches, decorated cakes, went on a Teddy Bear hunt for some treats and wrote invitations for our friends! We had so much fun!

Forest School...

We are so lucky to have an amazing Forest School area, and we love visiting as often as possible! We have enjoyed Nature Hunts, collecting natural resources for arts and crafts, Bug Hunts, and we always make sure we have time for a story around the fire pit! Over the coming terms we are excited to start planting our own plants, flowers and vegetables!

Chinese New Year...

We have really enjoyed learning about, and celebrating, Chinese New Year this week! We learned how people celebrate, made some Dragons, made marks (copied Chinese writing) in red glitter and gloop, and of course tried some food! Take a look at some of our pictures...

Stay and Play...

Our 2-year old children had a fantastic time at their Christmas themed stay and play! They decorated biscuits, made snowmen, made Christmas decorations and lots more! We look forward to the next one!

Christmas Stay and Play!

We Love Squiggle...

Squiggle Whilst You Wiggle is an important part of our Nursery routine. It supports the development of fine motor skills and ultimately, pencil grip and control to help the children with mark making and writing. The children have so much fun while taking part, they use pom poms and ribbons, mark make in paint, foam and gel, and make marks on huge pieces of paper while listening to music. Take a look at some of our pictures...

We have had a fantastic first few weeks in Nursery! We have all enjoyed exploring our classroom, learning the new routines and getting to know each other. We have particularly enjoyed playing outside on our playground equipment and new bikes!
