Year 6 Mrs Kelly and Miss Hedley

Dear Parents/ Carers and all year 6 pupils,

We will update this page daily with lessons that your child can complete whilst the school is closed. Some of the work we set will need to be completed in the exercise book provided. Other pieces of work can be completed in the work books provided or online.  Each day, we will provide work for the core subjects : Maths and English. In addition to this, we will set topic work which can be completed over the course of the week.

When children return to school all work completed should be returned to school so that teachers can see what your child has been able to do.

1: Core Subjects

Maths

Please can your child aim to complete a good chunk of maths (approx 1 hour) each school day from the options below:

  • Your children can use the work books provided that they have previously been using for their homework. Encourage them to use the methods that have been taught through the year. If your child can not complete the questions or does not know a method to use, they can leave that page out.
  • We have also provided white rose problems of the day. If children find some of the problems tricky, they should use the Youtube links in the powerpoint.
  • Children can also log on to Timestables Rockstars where teachers can see how they are getting on.

English

Please aim to spend approximately an hour (or more if you wish) on English learning. This should be made up of 20 minutes or more a day of reading; either (part of) a writing activity or a SPAG activity; and at least 10 spellings a week.

English - Reading:

We have included some comprehension sheets and  a 10 minute Reading test book that the children have been using in school. Children should aim to read for 20 minutes (or more if you choose) a day, either from their reading book, comprehension booklet or online.

English - Writing:

Using styles of writing we have previously worked on this year, children may be set work to complete in the exercise book provided.

English – SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar):

We will provide weekly spellings to learn as well as online grammar activities on SPAG.com. Children have their log in details for SPAG.com.

2: Online Platforms

Activities have been set that relate to the learning from lessons this year.

TT Rockstars               ttrockstars.com

Tests and worksheets will be set each week in https://www.spag.com/  for children to complete.

Weekly spelling lists will be uploaded to the online spelling platform     https://www.spellingshed.com/
