Writing - Diary Entry - Write about what you got up to yesterday. Did you tidy your room? Give someone a cuddle? Read a story to the dog? Remember to use a capital letter for the days of the week. I will put my diary entry onto Facebook soon. When you are writing, remember we need to start every sentence with a capital letter. I also want to see finger spaces, full stops and try to use the word 'and' to join your sentences. One last thing, remember we use tricky word 'I' when we are talking about ourselves not the sound 'igh'. If you can, upload a picture under mine - I would love to see your super writing!! ***Children write on the purple line, their tall (b, d, h, k, l, t) and capital letters go past the dotted line up to the full line and their descenders (f, g, j, p, q, y) go to the full line below the purple***

Maths - very similar to yesterday but hopefully the children are more confident today!!

At the beginning of the session count forwards and backwards to 50, we love to use this song to help us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtNskltyA0E. Next, ask a parent to choose two numbers between 0 and 50 for you to count to. Your first two numbers from me are 50 --->12.

In your Week 1 booklet, your Day 4 maths activity is linked to greater than, less than and equal to.  Watch/sing this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGvrG6049wE a few times to ensure the children remember what each sign means (< less than, > greater than and = equal to). The children should then be able to complete our activity. Encourage the children to count in 10's when counting the objects rather than each cube or counter individually.

Challenge - If they want further practice here is a game they can play https://www.abcya.com/games/comparing_number_values_jr

Topic

Our topic just now is 'Australian Adventure.' We have studied the geographical side of this topic and learnt about where Australia is on a map, the population and many of its incredible landmarks. My Year 1 children absolutely love learning about the animals and we have therefore began learning about the animals and their habitats (science). When in school the children are given the opportunity to 'show me' what they have learnt through a variety of different resources. I spend about 10 minutes filling their minds with information and then they process and explain their understanding through play. They build with blocks, lego and junk modelling, they paint and draw, they write sentences, captions and labels, we go outside and they create using natural objects like sticks, leaves and mud. The children are incredible at showing me their learning and if possible I want this to continue. I will provide a variety of websites that will help to teach the children about habitats and food chains and I want them to show me with anything they have at home what they have learnt. I have also provided a booklet and if the children want to complete that, this is also ok!!

Yellow- The Gingerbread Man

English

Spelling - Practice writing your tricky words 3 times. Challenge - can you write a sentence in your exercise book using some of these words?

Maths

At the beginning of the session count forwards and backwards to 50, we love to use this song to help us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtNskltyA0E. Next, ask a parent to choose two numbers between 0 and 50 for you to count to. Your first two numbers from me are 48 --->22.

In your Week 1 booklet, your first maths activity is linked to tens and ones. Play this game then complete your activity.  https://www.ictgames.com/sharkNumbers/mobile/
