Year 4: Miss Grey/Mrs Kelly

Hello and a big welcome to our Y4 page! We all work very hard in Y4 and have lots of fun! On our page, you will find all of the exciting and interesting things we have been up to at school and any important information you may need.

Important information

PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure children bring to school a suitable PE kit on these days.

Children have logins for TTRS, Spelling Shed and Accelerated Reader. They should access these three times a week as part of their homework.
Children will be sent home with their Maths target book on Tuesdays to practise at home. These need to be returned on Friday so the children can be assessed and their target changed.

Home learning will be set on this page as and when it is needed.

In our DT lessons, we have been designing and making different catapults. We enjoyed testing them out in the sunshine!

We have been looking at light and shadows in Science this half term and have designed and created a shadow puppet show. We had to think about where to hold the torch to create different sized shadows in our show.

Our variable was the material as that was the only thing we were changing. We found out that the carper slowed the car down the most, therefore, had the most friction.

The children took part in some drama yesterday where they dressed up as a child from the mines. They had to describe to the rest of the class what their life was like. Some of the children started work in the mines at 4am and didn't finish until 5pm!

This week in English the children are writing a set of instructions on how to make a fossil. Today, the children took part in an experience day where they followed the steps on how to do this using clay.

Y4 have spent this week exploring levers, gears and pulleys. They designed and made their own pulley system to bring coal up to the surface from the mines.

Y4 had a great time at Thorp Academy where they took part in a sporting festival lead by the fantastic Y8 sport leaders. The children were all very tired by the end of the session!

We had the BEST time at Beamish today! We found out all about what life was like for miners and how dangerous their jobs could be. We even found out that children were expected to work in the mines too! We decided we much preferred coming to school everyday!
