1. Athletics
In this unit, children will advance their athletic skills through a range of activities that promote physical fitness, coordination, and perseverance. They will learn key skills such as sprinting, long-distance running, jumping, and throwing, focusing on techniques to improve their speed, endurance, and strength. Children will also develop their understanding of the importance of warm-ups and cool-downs, goal-setting, and personal bests. By the end of the unit, they will be able to demonstrate improved performance in various athletic events, understand the principles of fair play and sportsmanship, and reflect on their personal progress and achievements
Children will be able to:
· Use running, jumping, throwing, and catching in isolation and in combination.
· Use different running techniques for long and short distances.
· Compare their performances with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best.
· Perform actions and skills with more consistent control and quality.
· Use appropriate techniques to overcome obstacles safely while maintaining speed.
· Perform a throw for distance using an adaptation of a recognised technique.
2. Dance
In this unit, children will explore and develop their dance skills through a variety of creative and structured activities. They will learn to express themselves through movement, understanding the importance of rhythm, coordination, and spatial awareness. Key skills will include mastering basic dance steps, creating and performing sequences, and working collaboratively in groups. Children will also develop their ability to evaluate and improve their performances, fostering a sense of confidence and enjoyment in dance. This unit aims to enhance their physical fitness, creativity, and appreciation for different dance styles and cultures.
Children will be able to:

3. Basketball
In this unit the children develop and improve their defending, attacking and team play skills. They explore ways in which to attack and defend and play mini versions of invasion games. In all games the children should think about using skills, strategies and tactics to outwit the opposition, entering their opponent’s territory with the ball and looking to get into a good scoring position. They will be introduced to a wider range of games and will apply the basic principles to these new games. They will learn to develop their own warm-ups, how to carry out officiating duties and develop practices to improve their team play.
Children will be able to:
· Dribble the basketball with improved control and coordination, both while stationary and moving.
· Execute various types of passes (chest pass, bounce pass, overhead pass) with accuracy and appropriate force.
· Shoot the basketball with better technique and accuracy, understanding the mechanics of a good shot.
· Demonstrate a clear understanding of the basic rules of basketball, including fouls, violations, and scoring.
· Apply basic offensive and defensive strategies during gameplay, such as spacing, positioning, and teamwork.
· Collaborate effectively with teammates, showing good communication, support, and sportsmanship.
· Enhance their overall physical fitness, including agility, endurance, and strength, through regular practice and gameplay.
· Reflect on their own and others’ performances, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
4. Gymnastics
In this unit the children will use their knowledge of composing sequences to develop performances that meet requirements and demonstrate increased quality and complexity. They will perform different skills and agilities, using what they have learned about variations in speed, level and direction, with the aim of showing as much control and precision as possible. Children will create sequences across the floor and apparatus and perform to music.
Children will be able to:
· Create, practice and refine longer, more complex sequences, including changes in level, direction and speed
· Show clarity, fluency, accuracy and consistency in movements
· Adapt their performances to the needs of the task
· Understand the need to warm up and work on body strength and flexibility
· Suggest ideas for warm-ups and make simple judgements about performances and how to improve
5. Football

6. Cricket
In this unit, children will develop their cricket skills through a series of engaging and structured activities. They will learn to bat, bowl, and field with increasing accuracy and confidence. Key skills will include understanding and applying the rules of the game, developing strategic thinking, and improving their ability to work as part of a team. Children will also focus on enhancing their hand-eye coordination, agility, and spatial awareness. This unit aims to foster a love for the sport, promote physical fitness, and encourage fair play and sportsmanship.
Children will be able to:
· Demonstrate proper batting techniques, including grip, stance, and shot selection.
· Bowl with improved accuracy and consistency, understanding different types of deliveries (e.g., fast, spin).
· Field with agility and awareness, including catching, throwing, and stopping the ball.
· Show a clear understanding of the basic rules and objectives of cricket, including scoring, dismissals, and field placements.
· Apply basic strategies for both batting and fielding, understanding the importance of positioning and tactics.
· Reflect on their own and others’ performances, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
Fitness
We as a whole school are implementing a fitness PE lesson once a week to encourage the children to maintain a healthy active lifestyle. Holding themselves accountable for their achievements and following their personal progress as they develop their fitness and cardiovascular health throughout their school life.
