1. Athletics
In this unit, children will advance their athletic skills through a range of activities that promote physical fitness, coordination, and perseverance. They will learn key skills such as sprinting, long-distance running, jumping, and throwing, focusing on techniques to improve their speed, endurance, and strength. Children will also develop their understanding of the importance of warm-ups and cool-downs, goal-setting, and personal bests. By the end of the unit, they will be able to demonstrate improved performance in various athletic events, understand the principles of fair play and sportsmanship, and reflect on their personal progress and achievements
Children will be able to:
· Use running, jumping, throwing, and catching in isolation and in combination.
· Use different running techniques for long and short distances.
· Compare their performances with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best.
· Perform actions and skills with more consistent control and quality.
· Use appropriate techniques to overcome obstacles safely while maintaining speed.
· Perform a throw for distance using an adaptation of a recognised technique.
2. Dance
In this unit, children will further develop their dance skills through a variety of activities that enhance their physical coordination, rhythm, and expressive abilities. They will learn key skills such as creating and performing more complex dance sequences, understanding and interpreting different musical rhythms, and using space and dynamics effectively. Children will also deepen their ability to work collaboratively, respond constructively to feedback, and appreciate a wider range of cultural dance forms. By the end of the unit, they will be able to choreograph and perform more intricate dance routines, demonstrate improved balance and control, and reflect on their creative process and personal growth.
Children will be able to:

3. Tag Rugby
In this unit, children will develop their tag rugby skills through engaging activities that promote physical fitness, teamwork, and strategic thinking. They will learn key skills such as passing, catching, evading, and tagging, focusing on techniques to improve their speed, agility, and coordination. Children will also enhance their understanding of game rules, fair play, and sportsmanship. By the end of the unit, they will be able to participate confidently in tag rugby games, demonstrate improved tactical awareness and decision-making, and reflect on their individual and team performance.
Children will be able to:
· Perform and combine basic tag rugby skills
· Increase the power of their passes
· Select and implement appropriate skills in game situations,
· Understand and apply the principles of attacking and defending
· Work effectively as a team,
· Evaluate their own and others’ performances
4. Football
In this unit, children will advance their football skills through a series of activities designed to enhance physical fitness, teamwork, and strategic thinking. They will learn key skills such as advanced dribbling, precise passing, powerful shooting, and effective defending, focusing on techniques to improve their control, accuracy, and tactical awareness. Children will also deepen their understanding of game rules, fair play, and sportsmanship. By the end of the unit, they will be able to participate confidently in full-sided games, demonstrate improved decision-making and positional play, and reflect on their individual and team performance.
Children will be able to:
· Understand different types of pass.
· Continue to be able to communicate effectively.
· Continue to volley the ball.
· Continue to practice how to man mark and zonal mark.
· Practice set plays.
· Continue to use most of the key rules of the game such as free kick, corner, hand ball, foul, advantage and the card system.
5. Netball
In this unit the children develop and improve their defending, attacking and team play skills. They explore ways in which to attack and defend and play mini versions of invasion games. In all games the children should think about using skills, strategies and tactics to outwit the opposition, entering their opponent’s territory with the ball and looking to get into a good scoring position. They will be introduced to a wider range of games and will apply the basic principles to these new games. They will learn to develop their own warm-ups, how to carry out officiating duties and develop practices to improve their team play.
Children will be able to:
· Know when the appropriate time is to pass in a game.
· Can adapt passing technique in response to opposition.
· Can shoot from different distances during a game.
· Jumps to receive the ball with reasonable timing.
· Can successfully receive the ball from different angles.
· Track the flight of the ball.
· Judge the speed and direction of the ball.
6. Rounders
In this unit, children will develop their striking and fielding skills through engaging activities and games. They will learn the fundamental techniques of batting, bowling, throwing, and catching, while also understanding the roles of different fielding positions. The unit will emphasize teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking, allowing pupils to apply these skills in full game scenarios. By the end of the unit, children will have a solid grasp of rounders rules and tactics, enabling them to participate confidently and effectively in the sport.
Children will be able to:
· Catch a ball accurately when it is thrown directly to them.
· Accurately throw a ball overarm and underarm in the right direction.
· Use a range of tactics during a game when instructed and explain how these will benefit the overall strategy.
· Control the speed and direction of the ball when bowling.
· Move into the correct position or space to catch a ball that is thrown or hit into the field.
· Perform a range of manoeuvres to enable them to get into position to make a catch when fielding e.g. running in, diving, catching with one hand, etc.
Swimming
In this unit, children will enhance their swimming skills and water safety knowledge through a series of structured lessons. They will learn essential techniques such as floating, gliding, and basic strokes, including front crawl and backstroke. The unit will also focus on building confidence in the water, understanding pool safety rules, and developing stamina. By the end of the unit, children will be able to swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, and they will have a solid understanding of how to stay safe in and around water.
