In June 1925, miners were locked out of the Chopwell mine after they refused the owners' offer of less pay and worse working conditions. This was known as the Chopwell Lockouts. In June 2025, we remembered the Lockouts in school and the role the miners played in our village's history The whole school was involved in the project: our Year 5 class worked with Digital Voice to make a video diary of the Lockouts to remember what life would have been like for the families of Chopwell in 1925.
