Autumn 1
English
In Year 4, we brought our English text The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan to life through a special experience day. Inspired by the story, we used a range of recycled materials to design and create our very own Lost Things. The children let their imaginations run wild, combining unusual shapes and textures to invent creatures with unique personalities. This hands-on project not only deepened their understanding of the book but also encouraged creativity, teamwork and problem-solving as they explored how something discarded could be transformed into something extraordinary.
DT
Year 4 had great fun designing and building their own Art Bots! We explored how electrical circuits work and used motors to make their creations move and draw colourful pattern. This exciting Design and Technology project combined creativity, problem-solving and teamwork - with amazing results!
PE
Year 4 pupils developed their cricket skills in PE and finished the unit with an exciting neon, glow-in-the-dark session, applying their learning in a fun and engaging way.
Autumn 2
Science
In science, pupils investigated how animals can be classified by sorting and grouping them according to their features. They worked together to explain their thinking, compare ideas and use key scientific language, developing their understanding of how animals can be grouped.
Spring 1
Science
In science, pupils explored how sound travels by investigating vibrations in different materials. Through a series of practical activities, they observed how sound moves through solids, liquids and gases and discussed how these vibrations allow us to hear. Pupils worked collaboratively and shared their ideas as young scientists.
Year 4 enjoyed a hands-on science investigation exploring volume through measuring and teamwork.
English
Year 4 enjoyed an exciting Viking Experience Day to support our English learning. Pupils dressed up, designed their own Viking shields and carried out research to deepen their understanding of Viking life. The day provided lots of inspiration for our class text and helped pupils to develop ideas, vocabulary and imagination for their writing.
Year 3/4 Basketball Competition! 🏀
Year 4 Fitness Festival!
Our class had a fantastic visit to SafetyWorks!, where pupils took part in interactive sessions on topics such as fire and road safety. Through hands-on activities, they learned how to stay safe in everyday situations and make sensible choices.
During the Spring Term, Year 4 took part in an exciting project with Digital Voice, exploring the importance of electrical safety and how to stay safe around electricity at home and in the community.
As part of the project, the children visited SafetyWorks!, where they took part in interactive workshops and explored real-life safety scenarios. They developed their understanding of potential electrical hazards, learned how to recognise dangers and discovered how to make safe choices in different situations.
Working alongside the Digital Voice team, the children then planned, filmed and produced their own educational videos to promote electrical safety. Through teamwork, communication and technology, they created informative messages to help others learn about electrical safety.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and confidence shown by all of the children throughout the project.
We hope you enjoy watching their videos below!
We learned about solids, liquids and gases. They explored melting points and investigated how materials can change state. The children also enjoyed role-playing how particles behave in each state of matter.
To bring our class text, Cloud Tea Monkeys, to life, Year 4 took part in a fun tea tasting experience in the classroom. The children enjoyed trying a variety of teas, discussing their favourites and using rich descriptive vocabulary to describe their different tastes, smells and flavours.
Summer 1
Year 4 have been learning about different types of water pollution.
Year 4 had a fantastic visit to the Centre for Life, where they explored interactive exhibits and took part in hands-on science activities.
In Computing, Year 4 explored photo editing by using a range of tools and filters to change the appearance of digital images. They discussed how different edits and filters can affect the way a photograph makes people feel and considered how images can be used to create different moods and messages.
In Geography, Year 4 learned about Europe and explored the countries, landmarks and cultures that make the continent unique. As part of their learning, they researched Italy and created informative travel brochures to showcase its famous landmarks, traditions and attractions.
Summer 2
Year 4 became digestive system scientists this week! They enjoyed a memorable practical lesson where they recreated the digestive system using everyday materials. By following the journey of food from the mouth to the end of the digestive system, the children developed their understanding of how our bodies break down food, absorb nutrients and remove waste.
