The children have loved playing and exploring our outdoor areas. We have been very lucky with the warm weather which has meant we can spend more time outside. With this, we have began to plant many seeds such as, cress, pea pods, strawberrys and some flowers. We have learnt that it is very important for the plants to have water and sunlight to be able to grow. The children continue to thrive and develop their skills outside and we have been so proud of their determination, especially with the monkey bars!
We have some special guests in nursery for the next couple of weeks! Our chicks arrived on Monday and we were able to watch all 10 chicks hatch, it was a brilliant experience for both the children and the staff. The children have been very caring and kind towards our new friends and they have loved watching them everyday. We are incredibly lucky to be able to share our nursery with them.
Once a week, morning nursery have a turn at going to the sports hall to take part in PE. We have been having lots of fun playing warm up games such as the bean game which the children always request, they especially enjoy 'French bean'! We have been practicing different skills such as throwing and catching a ball, balancing in different ways and even flipping a pancake! The children are doing amazing and always look forward to PE Tuesdays.
Following on from the children's interest, treetops have been looking at farm animals. The children have enjoyed using the blocks to build their own animal enclosures and have used different materials such as sticks and straws to make homes. The children have practiced their fine motor skills in the playdough area, where they have made pigs. At the end of the week, the children made some lovely pig biscuits to enjoy. They looked super yummy!
We have enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year in Nursery this week. We tasted some yummy Chinese food such as noodles, prawn crackers and spring rolls and discussed which we liked the most. We also served some yummy noodles in our Chinese restaurant and decorated dragons.
Nursery have been working hard on their maths this term. We have looked at numbers 1 and 2 and used picture cards to sort into two hoops. The children were able to quickly identify how many were on the picture card and put them into the correct hoop! Well done everyone!
We have been getting into the Christmas spirit in Nursery this week. The children began by discussing what they would like for Christmas and having a look in the catalog for ideas. They then carefully cut them out before sticking them to their santa letter. Santa then delivered a special letter to let us know he delivered his magic post box to deliver our letters. The children are very excited to see what they get at Christmas, we can't wait!
This week the children have enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit! We read 'The Stickman' by Julia Donaldson and enjoyed collecting sticks to use within the provision. We made our own stickmen and used the sticks for printing in the paint area. The children have also been very interested in using different shapes to create their own pictures. They have made butterflies, rocket ships as well as houses! We finished the week by decorating the classroom into our own Christmas wonderland.
In Nursery, we like to take part in a lot of celebrations across the year. One celebration we took part in is Nursery Rhyme week! We enjoyed singing our favourite rhymes across the week and even learnt some new ones! The children enjoyed exploring the classroom and taking part in a range of activities. We played farm animal bingo, made our own boats and have lots of fun in the playdough!
Being Kind in 2024
This week in Nursery, the children have been discussing the importance of being kind. We know that one of our school rules is to be Respectful to others and this means being kind to all of our friends in Nursery. The children had a special challenge of doing one kind thing for their friends and were rewarded with a 'Kindness Star Sticker". Everyone was very excited to share how they have been kind, from drawing pictures to cheering each other up when they are sad. We also celebrated Remembrance Day and discussed what this is. The children enjoyed decorating their own poppies in the writing and playdough area. Throughout the week, the children have continued to explore their interests within the classroom, outside and through dress up!
Bonfire night and Diwali
Nursery have had a busy week back celebrating Bonfire night and Diwali. We started the week by discussing Bonfire night and what it is all about. The children were very enthusiastic as they described the fireworks they could see in the night sky. We then discussed Diwali and learnt it is the Festival of Lights and similarly to Bonfire night, also set off lots of beautiful fireworks! We celebrated by having lots of exciting activities in the classroom such as mark making in colourful salt, decorating Diya lamps and even making our own using clay.
Happy Halloween
Nursery thoroughly enjoyed their spooky Halloween party. Lots of fun crafts to create, party game fun and even some goopy spaghetti mess! The children loved being able to dress up and had a brilliant time at the Halloween tea party.
Nursery visit the Library
Nursery went on an exciting journey to the library. We sat and enjoyed listening to a spooky story and then went on a picture hunt around the library. The children were then able to take their own book back to nursery where they explored the books they picked up with their friends.
Lets get physical
Nursery have been practicing their throwing and catching with the balls outside and have enjoyed rolling the hoola hoops along the yard. Fridays are the best because we enjoy playing on the bikes and scooters too!
