Hatching Chicks

We have loved watching our chick eggs hatch! We talked about the life cycle of a hen and about how we look after the chicks so they are happy and healthy. We were so careful handling them and talked about how the chicks feathers felt. We have done some super writing about them!

We're going on a shape hunt

We have been on a shape hunt around our school. We have learning the names and about the properties of 2d shapes. We were great at spotting shapes around school.

World Book Day

We have loved celebrating world book day, we dressed up as our favourite book characters and brought in some of our favourite stories from home to share with our friends!

Oral Health

We have had a visit from the school nursing team who talked to us about the importance of looking after our teeth! We were excellent at answering questions about how we look after them and what food and drinks we should only have as a treat.

Pancake Day!

We have enjoyed learning about Pancake day this week. We have read Mr Wolf's Pancakes in drawing club and have created an ingredients list for Mr Wolf! We enjoyed making our own pancakes, we have mixed all the ingredients together and tasted a range of toppings!

Road Workers 🚗

Following on from children's interests in creating remote controls we have been exploring how to use a remote control car! We have been learning and using directional language and have demonstrated super sharing skills! We then created our own road for the car to drive on which led some children to make road signs and roundabouts, using their super phonic skills to spell words! So much fabulous learning going on in Reception today!

Chinese New Year

We have enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year in reception! We have been learning about Chinese traditions and have enjoyed serving the customers in our Chinese restaurant.

Mr Benn - The Zooper

This week in Drawing Club we watched Mr Benn's - The Zookeeper. We enjoyed learning new vocabulary linked to this animation. We then drew Mr Benn and some of the animals from the story. We designed our own enclosure for an animal of our choice and talked about what things it would need to ensure the animal was safe and healthy. We then created our own enclosures in the junk modelling area. Look at our amazing writing too!

Library Visit

We visited Chopwell Library this week. We listened to a story and went on a hunt for robots! We finished our session off by choosing a book to borrow from the library to share during story time in class.

Bonfire Night

We have been learning about Bonfire Night his week. We have enjoyed creating our own firework pictures on the IPad's. We have been using the colour changing tool and the paint brush effects. We have also learnt how to save our work! We have been creating firework pictures in the painting area. We have talked about the sounds they make and how they look in the night sky. We enjoyed dancing to Katy Perry Firework using coloured ribbons as fireworks!

Spooky Spells

Reception have had a fantastic morning at our spooky spell party! We listened to a spooky story, created magic and handled some Halloween creatures! Children handled the animals so carefully and listened so well to the instructions.

Ball Skills

This week in PE we have been developing our ball skills. We have been leaning how to control the ball when kicking and learning how to throw and catch!

Autumn

We have been learning all about signs of Autumn! As part of our learning we enjoyed a lovely Autumn walk. We talked about all the signs of Autumn we spotted and enjoyed listening to the crunch of the leaves under our feet. We created some fantastic Autumn trees in the paint area too.
