World Book Day!! Year 1 had the best day! We looked at the book ‘The Grand Hotel of Feelings’ and as our colour was pink, we completed lots of art work linked to love!! We then enjoyed taking part in the feelings activities provided by the team from The Methodist Church. To top off our amazing day, we absolutely loved spending time writing, reading and doing some phonics with our parents!!
In English, we are writing a set of instructions. We made pancakes so that we knew the steps needed for our instruction writing. They were really tasty!
We visited the library and listened to a great story!
In English, we have been writing our very own 'That's not my...' book. We even added materials to our books, which we have been learning in Science. Today we shared our stories and read them to our Reception class. They loved listening to our stories.
We have been learning multiple skills in P.E like: balance, control and how to change speed and direction.
Thank you for coming to our class Lumiere parent workshop. Your help was much appreciated!
P.E with Chris our NUFC coach has been so much fun this half term (Autumn 2). We learnt so many new skills in football! Thank you Chris
We loved having a delicious hot chocolate in forest school when it was cold!
We had the best time reenacting the story of ‘The First Christmas’, taking part in craft activities and writing about something that has brought us joy this year at Chopwell Trinity Methodist Church.
We had an amazing time at our Christmas Party!!
We absolutely loved our ‘Nerf Wars’ party to celebrate how hard we have been working!! Well done year 1! You make us so proud!!
History - we borrowed a box of toys from the Discovery Museum and really enjoyed exploring each one. We talked about how we knew if it was from the ‘past’ or a ‘new’ toy. We learnt about different materials used to make toys and how they have changed over the years, as well as the electrics and mechanical parts of toys! A super topic, enjoyed by us all!
Science - in Science this half term we have been learning about the five different classifications of animals. We also learnt about what makes an animal a ‘herbivore’, a ‘carnivore’ or an ‘omnivore’. To help us consolidate our learning, we found different ‘poo’s’ in our classroom and as a team we had to decide if the animal that left the poo was a herbivore, carnivore or an omnivore by what we could see in the poo!! We found leaves, seeds, bones and insects!!!!
In English this week, we have used Bonfire Night as our Stimulus. We described everything we could see, hear, feel, smell and taste on Bonfire Night! The children particularly enjoyed the ‘taste’ day!!

Our Senses Walk - In Science this half term we have been learning all about the human body and our five senses. We enjoyed drawing around our friends and labelling all the different body parts that we know. We also went on a walk around the playground and used our senses to make notes about what we could see, hear, feel and smell but decided not to use our taste sense this time!!
Local Walk - In Geography this half term, we have been learning all about where we live. We went on a walk around the village and then drew our own maps with a key.
