Year 5 Miss Hedley

Year 5 Library Visit

In science, the children have been learning about reversible and irreversible changes. We have observed the chemical reaction when you add vinegar to milk, an effervescent tablet to water and a candle burning.

In our Parent Lumiere Workshop, we created broomsticks and spells to match our theme of children's authors. Year 5 and 6 worked together to create The Wizarding World of Harry Potter by JK Rowling. Thank you to everyone who came along.

In PE lessons, Year 5 pupils have been learning how to tag safely, pass sideways and backwards and how to restart play.

Year 5 took part in a Remembrance Day Prayer Space where the children had time to reflect on their understanding of Remembrance and the importance of Armistice Day.

Year 5 took part in The NUFC Restart A Heart Workshop where the children identified the differences between a heart attack and cardiac arrest. The children each had a turn completing the steps to save a life - Danger, Response, Shout, Airways, Breathing, Compressions and Defibrillator.

We had a visit from our MP, Liz Twist, during GloWeek 2025. We've been learning about staying safe in the dark and the best clothing to wear to be seen. The police and fire service came to talk to the children about keeping safe during the winter months.

In art, we have been learning about installation art and have appraised 3-D sculptures. We created our own pieces of installation art. Our theme was plastic pollution.

In science, our topic this half term is forces. We have been learning all about Sir Isaac Newton and his studies of gravity, light and laws of motion which are still used today. We have been investigating whether mass affects the force of gravity.

Year 5 took part in a Show Racism The Red Card workshop where they learnt what racism is, stereotypes and what to do if they see racism.

In English, Year 5 have been exploring belongings that have washed ashore to help us get into character. We are reading the book 'Flotsam' by David Wiesner.
